GK’s Custom Polishing History

The story all started when our Founder, Grant K. Alexander, started a part-time auto detailing business out of his parent’s garage in high school. He quickly became known for his high level of quality, attention to detail and the amount of time he would put into each detail. Word spread quickly among friends and family that Grant was the person to go to for a great detail job!

As time went on, customers requested Grant to begin detailing other “toys” they owned. Before Grant knew it, he was detailing boats and motorcycles. Many boat customers actually trained Grant on how to detail and maintain their boats.

GK’s Custom Polishing, Inc. was officially incorporated in 2001. With its new found incorporation came a completely new division: Hard Surface Maintenance and Restoration. Grant used his knowledge of natural stone, concrete, ceramic tile & grout to put together a talented and dedicated team of hard surface technicians that have become known for their quality. GK’s Custom Polishing, Inc. would eventually become the leader for hard surface maintenance in the Greater Cleveland Area.

GK’s Custom Polishing, Inc. became a member of the Marble Institute of America and became certified by the National Training Center for Stone & Masonry Trades.

GK’s Custom Polishing, Inc. became Certified by I-CAR for automobile detailing. GK’s also added their Climate-Controlled Storage division to the company. This division eventually grew to store automobiles, boats, RVs, jet skis and motorcycles. This allowed GK’s to take better care of their customers with a more turn-key approach.

GK’s Custom Polishing, Inc. saw the demand from their customers to get their vehicles transported around and out of the Northeast Ohio. GK’s began transporting customer’s vehicles to service facilities, car shows, 2nd homes, etc. GK’s has two enclosed vehicle transporters that can safely transport any vehicle (no matter the weather) safely for their customers. This was the 3rd service (detailing, storage and transportation) that GK’s now offered that catered to the toy enthusiast.

With GK’s popularity rapidly growing, we outgrew our “original garage” and moved into a building on Lear Industrial Parkway in Avon. By 2008, we had outgrown that space and moved down the street to a brand new facility at 1215 Lear Industrial Parkway. This new location offered much more office, detailing and storage space.

GK’s Custom Polishing, Inc. became a Master Distributor for Stone Tech hard surface maintenance products (cleaners and sealers). During this year, GK’s Custom Polishing, Inc. was part of the restoration on the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument in downtown Cleveland. GK’s fully restored all the natural stone flooring located throughout the monument. This was a really cool project to be part of in Cleveland.

GK’s Custom Polishing, Inc. saw a rapid increase in commercial customers for their Hard Surface Maintenance and Restoration Division. As a result, GK’s began servicing many customers in the Columbus, Ohio area.

As most companies grow, there are always things that need to be fine-tuned to make sure customers are receiving the best quality service possible. GK’s Custom Polishing, Inc. implemented training programs and perfected their processes to ensure their customers are getting the best quality outcome on every project completed.

GK’s Custom Polishing, Inc.’s detailing services grew so much that a Detailing Manager position was added to the company. Every detail has to pass a quality control inspection before it can be released to our customer. GK’s wants to make sure it is as perfect as possible before our customer takes their item home.

GK’s transporting services expanded to now offer boat transporting for their customers. Boats can now be picked-up at your desired locations, brought to our storage facility, detailed and then transported back in the spring.

A Storage and Transportation Manager position was created due to the volume of customers in these divisions.

As GK’s Custom Polishing continues to grow… we continue to expand!  In 2015, GK’s constructed a brand new state of the art storage facility to accommodate larger items such as boats and RVs.  We have become the market leader for storage facilities and have set the standard as to what customers should expect.

Concrete polishing, epoxy finishes and the maintenance of existing concrete surfaces has become so popular that a team has been dedicated to meet this demand from our commercial and residential customers.

Fall of 2017, marks the completion of yet another brand new storage facility. This space is designed with our customer’s needs in mind:  bigger doors, higher ceilings, more plugs for battery tenders, radiant heat and the list goes on. 2018 was about bringing even better service to their customers and also bringing a new cutting edge product to market. GK’s added 2 new manager level positions at the company. The first was to oversee the Operations of our Hard Surface Division. This job was created to make the customer experience that much better at GK’s. The second manager was added to oversee the additional service offerings in our storage division. Lastly, GK’s became a trained and certified applicator for Opti-Coat Ceramic Coatings. The best Ceramic Coating on the market today!
